Welcome to VocaTales’ Bionic Blog! In this series, we’re taking our content sci-fi: our writers are teaming up with the fanciest, nerdiest, most well-read robots the modern age has to offer (LLMs like ChatGPT) to explore the differences between human and generative AI writing. Although some of the words you’ll read here were arranged by a complicated network of computer circuits, we believe the power of those words is still organically sourced, rooted in the creative energies of the human mind. Picture imagination as a radiant sun; writers dancing in its warmth, drawing inspiration from human emotions and experiences, while AI crafts prose like a curious shadow, tracing silhouettes of the patterns and styles cast by their movements through the sunlight. Perhaps there’s some beauty to be found in the shadows! Or maybe human creativity will only shine all the brighter against an artificial backdrop. Enjoy our Bionic Blog content, and come to your own conclusions about what happens when humans and AI collide – is it a war of the worlds, or is a whole new world of words now emerging?

Author Insights

First official go at the hybrid post! Pressure’s on. When I reviewed the GPT response, I immediately realized my prompt was too vague – I didn’t specify anything about how the blog series would approach comparing human/AI content. But I also loved the sun/shadow metaphor that ChatGPT came up with, and didn’t want to lose it, so I stuck with the original output.

I hadn’t been planning on including any reference to how Gen AI works in the example paragraph, but thought the sun/shadow analogy was powerful and could be useful to include. Especially for readers who might be skeptical about any use of Gen AI in content creation.

With a few additions, I was surprised at how accurate the metaphor turned out to be in describing the way AI draws upon latent patterns in human content to produce new ideas and constructions – the impact of the text it produces is still ultimately rooted in the human imagination, just as shadows couldn’t exist without sunlight. But did my edits make the metaphor clearer, or did I stray into “overwriting” as I attempted to make the description more precise? I guess that’s for readers to decide!
